ELYSSE MORGAN INTERVIEW WITH NSW PLANNING MINISTER ROB STOKES
WE BELIEVE THIS IS ‘A FIRST’ !!
ON what the ‘Unconventional Economist’, Leith Van Onselen has been raising for years now!
KEY POINTS …
-Australia’s population now 25.5 Million
-in the next decade it will be 30 Million
-Federal Population Minister Alan Tudge acknowleged population growth is causing problems
-NSW Planning Minister Rob Stokes is calling for a National Strategy
-permanent immigration cap was lowered from 190,000 p.a. to 160,000; that happened 2 years ago
HOWEVER Elysse then raised the issue of ‘the real net migration is up in the 270,000s.’
‘Do we need to be more honest about what the real immigration figures are?
Stokes: I’ve never understood what the imperative of not being entirely transparent about what the numbers actually are …
-the numbers include not only overseas migration, student numbers, itinerate arrivals of tourists and business visitors
-all rely on public services of health care, transport and the road network
-there will be a National Population and Planning Framework driven through the Treasury
-need to recognise the human impacts of population increase on infrastructure costs
-more planning required where migrants should go in the regions with ongoing drought conditions
-the Federal Government is talking about funding $100 Billion over 10 years for infrastructure
-the NSW Government is spending the same amount over 4 years
