Many low income Australians experience rental stress and can easily find themselves homeless. How do we make housing more affordable and accessible?

A ‘State of Affairs’ event presented by the Grattan Institute. Recorded on June 26, 2019

Speakers:

Adrian Pisarski – Executive Director, National Shelter

John Daley – CEO, Grattan Institute

(moderator) Scott Stephens – Religion and Ethics editor, ABC online; co-host, ‘The Minefield’, ABC RN

ON the Big Ideas programme, another discussion about HOUSING … held in Brisbane 26 June 2019 (after the Federal Election).

Largely about the …

-role of government

-public v private

-private investors

-social housing

AND the real inequality is now in the ‘after housing costs’ according to Grattan Institute’s John Daley …

WHILST we did not hear all of the programme … we did not pick up any mention of the impact of ‘foreign buyers’ … did we miss this?

Somehow we doubt it … on our experience to date …

-why are foreign buyers not mentioned?

-is there something stopping foreign buyers and their impact being discussed?

WHY do we seem to relish in the TITLE DEEDS to Australia’s domestic housing being exported overseas?

-is self-censorship prevailing?

-are foreign buyers a taboo subject?

-why isn’t the absence of Anti-Money Laundering Legislation, and it’s role in real estate not discussed?
